Students show passion for Geography

Posted by: Richard Selway on 19-10-2017

Firstly some belated recognition – A very big thank you to the wonderful students who helped to make our recent Open Evening a real success.  It is delightful to see students put on their meet and greet smiles and proudly show off their passion for the subject. Thanks particularly to year 11 Iman, Eleanor and Lucy, year 9 Denys and Matilda, and year 7 Ata and Gintare – these student showed parents around the Geography Department, told them about their work and their school, and lead the interactive and table topic activities keeping parents and potential students excited about geography for an evening!

Secondly, year 8 have been investigating population and migration in Geography.  In a recent home learning task students in 8FTB went beyond what was a routine task and really engaged their emotions and creativity.  Analysing the difficulties many migrants face if forced to leave their country due to war and poverty a particular student, Aliyah, made a heartfelt journal of thoughts and box of personal possessions that one might gather if forced to leave their home due to push factors in Mexico, to cross the ‘Tortilla Curtain’, now more commonly known as President Trump’s infamous ‘Wall’. Well done Aliyah, you demonstrate wonderful commitment and effort and compassion for the subject!
