Year 9 football season starts with a win

Posted by: Unknown on 14-09-2017

On what turned out to be a very wet Wednesday afternoon, the Year 9 football team started their season with 6-1 win against Kingston Academy in the Kingston League. A competitive, even and physical first half was punctuated with three excellent goals with the first a flowing team move involving Dan Best and Will Pankhurst finished by Umit Akdag, Kingston Academy equalising with a fierce left foot volley into the top corner before Luca Lynch ran on to a through ball to strike confidently into the bottom corner. With a slender 2-1 advantage at half time, Hollyfield stepped up their performance in the second half and after some important saves from goal keeper Tom Hempston, the boys dominated the game, scoring 4 goals in the last 20 minutes. Luca and Umit scored one more each, before Louis Toussiant added a well taken free kick and a sharp left footed drive to wrap up a good team win. Whilst all the boys played well, the defence led by Archie Willett was particularly strong and Sam Jones making his debut had a great half at left back.

Hopefully this is a good gauge for future results as the team look to defend their Kingston League title for a third successive year. The next game is against Grey Court in a friendly on Thursday afternoon.
