Meet the Governors

The school governors are all volunteers over the age of 18. The governors play a key role in decision making around the school such as running buildings, budgets, supporting staff and setting the standards for discipline and uniforms.

The governors are also there to support the headteacher in their role. They do also ask questions to the headteacher to ensure that they are taking the school in the right direction.

Skills I bring to the Governing Body:

I work in HR for an insurance company, in a role focused on improving diversity and inclusion. I originally trained as a teacher but decided to spend a few years doing something else first, and never returned to the profession, so I really appreciate the opportunity to be involved in school life by being a governor. I was previously a governor at a primary school, and a Director of a Social Enterprise focused on providing meaningful work experience for young people in Brixton.

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield:

I have two children at Hollyfield (currently in year 11 and year 9) and I wanted to do my bit to help Hollyfield deliver on its commitment to provide the best educational experience for ‘every child every day’.

Personal facts:

I moved to Kingston 6 years ago and love living here with my family (including a dog and a cat). When I’m not being a mum, working or being a school governor, I like to garden and to go for long walks with the dog in one of the amazing parks we have near us.

Other governor roles:

I have been a Hollyfield Governor since 2018 and Chair of Governors since November 2019. I am the link governor for disadvantaged students.

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield:

I have two children at Hollyfield - in years 7 and 9. Both are on the Performing Arts Scholarship programme and love it! I am very excited by this opportunity to support the school and to help play a role in ensuring that all pupils are able to achieve their potential.

Skills I bring to the Governing Body:

I have worked for almost 20 years as a Research Scientist within a multidisciplinary academic institute in London. I have also taught and supervised students. I have experience in writing and proofreading papers for peer-reviewed journals. In addition to this, I have been involved in the preparation of grant budgets and finances. I hope to use my knowledge and skills to support The Hollyfield School and its students to fulfill their potential and achieve their goals.

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield:

I have lived in Surbiton for 16 years and have a daughter currently in Year 9. Therefore, as a parent and a member of the local community, I applied for the role of Governor to support Hollyfield School and all of its pupils.

Term of Office:

Declaration of Interests Statement:

Skills I bring to the Governing Body: My day job is in risk management at one of the large accountancy firms and I am a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield: I have always tried to get involved with helping at my children’s schools, mainly on trips when additional adult support was needed, but this is my first time in a more formal capacity. I decided to take on the role of parent governor because of the positive experience my son has had at the school since joining and following the request for new governors with a finance background. I’m keen to get involved to support Hollyfield to ensure it is doing the best it can for all its students.

Personal facts: I don’t have too much time for pastimes but I try to keep active by running (slowly) and cycling a bit.

Skills I bring to the Governing Body:

I have worked in IT management for the last 25 years and in the past have worked on the Building school for the future program and I am hoping I can apply these skills to Hollyfield.

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield:

I was a parent governor in Wandsworth for a primary school 10 years ago & I wanted to get involved again in my local area. I have 3 children studying in the area & was keen to offer my services to the local community & ensure kids can take advantage of this. I have senior position working in IT in the city and I have gained many life skills that may be of value to young kids in the future, but more than anything else I believe in the concept of service and giving something back to society and this is my small contribution.

Personal facts:

I have been a lifelong Liverpool football fan and enjoy watching movies in my spare time.

I have worked at the school since 2010 and been Head of Physical Education since 2014. I hope that as staff governor I can help in the continued development and success of the school for both pupils and staff. Hollyfield is a great community school with its young people at the centre and I am looking forward to assisting at a governor level.
