Meet the Governors

The school governors are all volunteers over the age of 18. The governors play a key role in decision making around the school such as running buildings, budgets, supporting staff and setting the standards for discipline and uniforms.

The governors are also there to support the headteacher in their role. They do also ask questions to the headteacher to ensure that they are taking the school in the right direction.

Emma Francis ~ Chair of Governors
Emma Francis

I have been a parent governor since July 2018 and Chair of Governors since November 2019. I am also the link Governor for disadvantaged students. I live in Kingston and work for an insurance company, looking after their corporate responsibility programme and their diversity & inclusion efforts. This involves working with schools to raise the aspirations and achievements of disadvantaged students. I am also a Director of “We Rise”, a Social Enterprise that provides meaningful work experience for young people in Lambeth. My children are in year 10 and year 8 at Hollyfield.

I have a son in Hollyfield School one in yr 9. By profession I have been researching into urological cancers for the past 30yrs. I have spent a great deal of my time dealing with facts and figures and training researchers. Have acted as a governor in son's previous school and learnt a great deal which I hope to apply to my present position. Strongly believe in good education and good behaviour for children letting them have a strong and positive start in life. I also believe in fairness hoping to make sure that all communities benefit from fruit of our education in the school. I am the link Governor for English.

Skills I bring to the Governing Body: My day job is in risk management at one of the large accountancy firms and I am a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor

Reason for becoming a Governor at Hollyfield: I have always tried to get involved with helping at my children’s schools, mainly on trips when additional adult support was needed, but this is my first time in a more formal capacity. I decided to take on the role of parent governor because of the positive experience my son has had at the school since joining and following the request for new governors with a finance background. I’m keen to get involved to support Hollyfield to ensure it is doing the best it can for all its students.

Personal facts: I don’t have too much time for pastimes but I try to keep active by running (slowly) and cycling a bit.
