Year 9 vs Year 10 football match

Posted by: Dave Miller on 06-10-2017

On Wednesday afternoon, after both year groups had their scheduled opponents cancel on them, the Year 9 and Year 10 football teams faced off against each other in an inter-school game. The game was played in an excellent spirit and the boys represented their year groups with respectful, friendly but hard fought performances.

The year 10's dominated the early stages of the game using their additional size and presence to put early pressure on a nervous Year 9 team. As the first half wore on, the Year 9s matched the older year group physically and found their feet in the game, passing the ball nicely and frustrating their opponents. With half time approaching, Oscar House drifted in from the wing and played a wonderful through ball to Umit Akdag, who duly slotted home. The second half continued in the same vein, although the Year 10 team had a Cameron Black header ruled out for offisde by Mr Redfearn before Oscar House nipped in to poke home from close range to make it 2-0 to the younger age group. This spurred the Year 10's on and their attacking momentum increased with Isaac Olayanian stinging the gloves of Year 9 goalkeeper Ben Sopta Sheldrake. A chaotic ending was sparked by Oliver Henning's late consolation before the Year 9's hit the bar in a late counter attack, with Max Brown superbly tipping an Oscar House effort onto the woodwork making the final score 2-1 to the Year 9 team.

Both Mr Redfearn and Mr Miller were very impressed by the attitude shown by both teams and although the Year 10s have already offered a rematch, the Year 9s have politely declined and look forward to reminding the older year of the score.
