Enrichment and Trips
Trips
We believe at Hollyfield Sixth Form that learning should go beyond the curriculum and that is why we place much so value on our trips and weekly enrichment programme. We open up our trips to students on all courses because we make sure that they are cross curricular and they will cover the geography, history, politics, science and the arts found in a particular destination.
Cern trip
On the Cern trip students will visit the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva in Switzerland where scientists do experiments to try and understand the conditions that created our universe. Students will also visit the UN Headquarters and do a tour of Geneva.
Paris trip
On the Paris trip students will visit at Christmas when the city feels festive and atmospheric. We stay in the centre of the city and visit the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, we see the skeletons in the Catacombs, we visit magnificent art galleries such as the Pompidou and the Musee D'Orsay and do a boat trip down though the old heart of the city.
New York and Washington trip
On the New York and Washington trip we spend the first 3 days in New York where we go up the Empire State Building, we visit the Statue of Liberty and the Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island, we visit the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and go shopping on Fifth Avenue. Then we spend 2 days in Washington where we visit the White House, the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial and see where Martin Luther King delivered his famous 'I have a dream' speech.
Weekly enrichment
Every Wednesday students have a time-tabled enrichment session where they can take part in a wide variety of activities to extend their learning beyond the curriculum. These activities include Go Ape, Paintballing, debates and debating competitions such as the English Speaking Union, political hustings, guest speakers, first aid courses, university and apprenticeship fairs, careers workshops and 5-a-side football at goals to name but a few.
We have a football team that enters the Surrey and national cups and has regular fixtures. We have a joint Rugby team with Grey Court that is coached by Richmond and play weekly fixtures and have an excellent track record in competitions. We have a netball team that train weekly and enter local competitions. We are passionate about enrichment, and it makes the sixth form feel like a real community as students and staff have these rewarding shared experiences.
